[edit] Welcome

Hey Stormshadows00, welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions, especially to the Cherokee Freedmen Controversy article. Sometimes editors change or revert edits, and if you ever feel like any of your contributions have been misunderstood, or if you would like to talk about what you think an article needs, you can click the discussion button and it will take you to the talk page, such as here: Talk:Cherokee Freedmen Controversy. Even so, feel free to be bold and edit the article directly when your edits aren't likely to be controversial. Anyway, I hope you enjoy working on Wikipedia. Generally new users are directed to read through some of our materials as a sort of introduction. Some good places to browse include, the five pillars of Wikipedia, how to edit a page, how to write a great article, our manual of style, and some key policy pages discuss the importance of subjects of Wikipedia being notable, and having edits be cited to reliable sources. Also, please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, ask me by email, or ask your question and then place {{helpme}} before the question on your talk page. Again, welcome!  By the way, feel free to rewrite the first couple paragraphs (sometimes called the lead of that article. Best, Smmurphy(Talk) 18:18, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

Please discuss your changes to Cherokee Freedmen Controversy on the article's Discussion page. Edit warring doesn't help anybody. Corvus cornix 17:45, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
I have no idea what is going on on the article, but Dispute resolution appears to be the way to go. And you both need to read WP:3RR. Corvus cornix 21:38, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
In Wikipedia usage, a sockpuppet is someone who uses multiple User ids or IP addresses in order to influence a discussion, try to claim consensus when there isn't one, or try to avoid a block by coming in as another user. Like I said, I have no information on this person that Mr. Merkey is claiming that you are a sock puppet of, so I can't help you to prove or disprove it. You might want to try Wikipedia:Mediation, if you can't work out your differences in the article. See WP:SOCK for more information on sockpuppets. Corvus cornix 21:47, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
I apologize that you are dealing with this as a new user. Please understand that relations between authors on wikipedia are not what we might wish (although I believe that the relations between authors on any multi-authored project can be quite bad at times, and things at wikipedia are often better than other such projects). I again thank you for your contribution, and encourage you to hang around.
As background, Jeffrey and I have had disputes over material relating to this in the past, and Jeffrey has had other similar disputes with others. But on the whole, he is a respected member of the community, and we (everyone) try to live with each other and work with each other. If you do have any questions, let me know. Trying to discuss things on talk pages as you are is the right thing to do, and right now consensus is the right thing to seek. Best, Smmurphy(Talk) 22:07, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

If you keep it up, I am going to ask an Admin to block you for revert warring. Your edits are becoming vandalism at this point. Jeffrey Vernon Merkey 01:29, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Hey Stormshadows00, I just thought I'd add my thoughts as a sort of "second opinion" given that this is a warning template. It is mostly for the benefit of other users who visit your talk page, although you should feel free to take what you like from it. While their is some disagreement about the page, the edits Jeffrey is referring to (3 edits making up this change) aren't in my opinion vandalism, nor are they reversions, as they are adding new citations for material. The lead needs to be discussed further, but the reversions there aren't, in my opinion, reason to block, although us editors involved should (and will, I believe) discuss the lead more.
