Story Prize

The Story Prize is an annual book award that began in 2004 honoring the author of an outstanding collection of short fiction with a $20,000 cash award. Each of two runners-up receives $5,000. Eligible books must be written in English and first published in the United States during a calendar year.
The 2007 finalists were Tessa Hadley for Sunstroke and Other Stories, Vincent Lam for Bloodletting & Miraculous Cures, and Jim Shepard for Like You'd Understand, Anyway. The winner for books published in 2007 is Jim Shepard.
The 2006 finalists were Rick Bass for The Lives of Rocks, Mary Gordon for The Stories of Mary Gordon, and George Saunders for In Persuasion Nation. The winner for books published in 2006 was Mary Gordon.
The 2005 finalists were Jim Harrison for The Summer He Didn't Die, Maureen F. McHugh for Mothers and other Monsters, and Patrick O'Keefe for The Hill Road. The winner for books published in 2005 was Patrick O'Keefe.
The 2004 finalists were Edwidge Danticat for The Dew Breaker, Cathy Day for The Circus in Winter, and Joan Silber for Ideas of Heaven. The winner for books published in 2004 winner was Edwidge Danticat.
