Stormy Weather (Carl Hiaasen novel)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stormy Weather is a 1995 novel by Carl Hiaasen. The novel, like others by Hiaasen, is a satire and a thriller.

It traces the aftermath of a hurricane in Florida, loosely based on Hurricane Andrew, as it is mentioned in the novel that the town of Homestead was completely destroyed, including insurance scams, street fights, hunt for food and shelter, corrupt bureaucracy, ravaged environment and disaster tourists with a cast of quirky characters.

The central character of Stormy Weather is a former state governor, Clinton "Skink" Tyree, who tried to control the over-development of the state of Florida in the 1970s. Forced out of office by powerful business interests, he now lives a simple life hunting and gathering in the forest, frequently dining on roadkill.
