Stop Abuse For Everyone
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Stop Abuse For Everyone (SAFE) is a domestic violence organization started in 1991. It is based out of Portland, Oregon, but has a national presence, with chapters in New Hampshire and Illinois. Stop Abuse For Everyone advocates for what they term an "inclusive" model of domestic violence. They focus on groups that are "lacking in services", such as abused men, gay lesbian, and transgendered victims, and the elderly.[1].
[edit] Relevancy
Stop Abuse For Everyone is one of only a couple of organizations that has advocated for the plight of abused men and other "underserved" domestic violence groups such as GLBT victims. SAFE has had been listed as one of the 50 most promising strategy programs to prevent domestic violence [2], has been publicized by Dear Abby (in her 3/22/02 column) [3].
SAFE has had made many appearances at national conferences on domestic violence, media coverage, and presentations to government entities in the United States [4].
SAFE was founded by Jade Rubick in 1997, and became a non-profit organization in 2001 with co-founders Phil Cook and Stanley Green. [5].
