Stone Oak

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stone Oak is a master-planned, deed restricted, multi-use development in north central San Antonio, Texas. The area is known for its numerous upscale, gated-communities and shady, tree-lined streets. Homes in this range from $150,000 for a three bedroom to over a million for more luxurious homes. The area has many large and small shopping centers catering to the residents needs.

Schools and education - The middle schools are Barbara Bush and Lopez (new); high schools are Ronald Reagan and Lady Bird Johnson (opens in fall of 2008). The closest college is UTSA off I-10 and 1604 highways.

Conveniences - The neighborhood has multiple shopping areas and business parks, including the new Village at Stone Oak, Rolling Oaks mall, The Shops at La Cantera, The Rim and Northwoods. The Shops at La Cantera include Neiman Marcus, Nordstorm, Dillard's, and Macy's. The Rim includes Bass Pro Shops, Best Buy and JC Penney.

Future and Present Activity - Stone Oak has undergone major construction since opening. Constant construction has put residents at unease. Hotels, malls, offices and other facilities such as more subdivisions are currently being built, mainly due to the popularity and demand of the area.

Facts - The area lies mainly in the 78258 ZIP Code. It is located off 281 and outside of loop 1604. The area used to be known as Bulverde and the Texas Hill Country near San Antonio. Many of the San Antonio Spurs reside in the neighborhood also (much of the city's wealth). The other upscale neighborhoods include Terrel Hills, Olmos Park, and Alamo Heights.

Negative Notes of San Antonio Residents - Stone Oak has been accused of clear-cutting land to build shopping centers and homes, in the meantime destroying several hundred year old trees. The area has also been subject to overcrowding (on roads and in schools), leading to problems.[citation needed]
