Stokken

Stokken is a former municipality in Aust-Agder county, Norway. Originally, from 1837, Stokken was a part of Austre Moland formannskapsdistrikt.

On 1 May 1878 Austre Moland was divided to form three municipalities: Barbu, Austre Moland and Tromøy. On 1 July 1919 Stokken was separated from Austre Moland, forming a municipality of its own with 1,683 inhabitants.

On January 1, 1962 a merger took place between Stokken, Austre Moland, Flosta as well as Strengereid district in Tvedestrand, creating the new municipality Moland. Before the merger Stokken had a population of 2,783 .
