Stockland Townsville is the largest shopping centre located in Townsville, Queensland known as "Stockland" or sometimes "Stockies" locally. In the early 1990s, Stockland Townsville opened as a major upgrade to what was previously known as Nathan Plaza (named after the street the centre ran along). Stockland Townsville is centrally located in the urban area of Townsville, in the suburb of Aitkenvale. At present, the centre has 160 specialty stores and five major tenants.
In 2006 Stockland Townsville purchased the old Commonwealth Bank centre and a service stations which were the only properties to share the four city block road-bound area of which Stocklands occupies.[2]
