From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Stockholm School of Economics in Riga, SSE Riga or Rigas Ekonomikas Augstskola is a business school in Riga, Latvia. It was founded in 1994 as a subsidiary of the Stockholm School of Economics, with the purpose of supplying the economies of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania with well-educated young professionals. The school is supported by the Swedish and Latvian governments as well as other sponsors, including a variety of corporations and George Soros Open Society Institute.
Initially, the school only provided undergraduate education through its B.Sc. in Business and Economics program. Given that it charges no tuition fee and employs modern teaching methods, including group work, summer internships and case studies, the school soon built strong reputation among region's employers and applicants alike. Furthermore, many SSE professors maintain the position that the Riga program is more difficult that the undergraduate SSE program. The admission rates for the B.Sc. program typically range between 7-10%. It annually enrolls approximately 115 students and about 15% of the students today are from Estonia, 20% - from Lithuania, the remainder being Latvian. English is the language of instruction.
The school also started an executive MBA program in a cooperation with the Stockholm School of Economics and the Stockholm School of Economics - Russia.
