[edit] Licensing

Though this image is subject to copyright, I feel its use is covered by the U.S. fair use laws because:

  1. This is an image created and uploaded for informational purposes only.
  2. The image is an accurate scan and includes all of the content appearing on page 11 of the March 1938 issue of The American Magazine.
  3. This image is of much lower resolution than the original. It cannot be used for high-resolution printing, and any copies made from it will be of inferior quality.
  4. Use of this art in the article Too Many Cooks adds to it significantly because it represents the first appearance of the article's subject, the novel Too Many Cooks.
  5. Use of this art in the article Too Many Cooks adds to it significantly because the art was used as a pictorial wrapper for a boxed set of recipes for dishes in the story. "An item that is almost as desirable as the first edition of the book, and even scarcer, is the promotional box of recipes produced by The American Magazine (Otto Penzler, Rex Stout's Nero Wolfe Part I: A Descriptive Bibliography and Price Guide, 2001).
  6. The copyright owner's rights to reproduce the image are not limited in any way.
