[edit] Insults

Do not ever insult me again without checking your facts out [1]! You may enjoy the odd pleasures of being an Admin, other people enjoy contributing to the project. If accurate research is beyond you, then stick to vandal patrol, or whatever it is inexperienced admins do. Giano (talk) 18:47, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

I have said it as I saw it. Stifle (talk) 21:59, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Copyright free images

Do you know what tag I should attach to an image if I access it from this site at egyptarchive.co.uk: [2]? The author states explicitly they are copyright free. I checked the 'index' section and he has an impressive collection of images. One was used for king Neferirkare Kakai here: [3] I have never uploaded an image onto Wikicommons and this is a unique case. How many sites say they feature copyright free images? Not many, I suppose.

BTW, I did notify Mr. Bodsworth that I used his image for pharaoh Neferirkare Kakai. The previous image of this king's pyramid was badly marred by the presence of a person in the picture. Any help you can give is appreciated on approaching copyright feee images. Thank You, Leoboudv (talk) 05:16, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your message. You may find you get a quicker response in future to questions like this at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.
You can use {{PD-release}} and place a link to that contact page on the image description page. Stifle (talk) 22:05, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] response to Stifle message re: deletion review

Oh, sorry about the missing signature thingie, but that typewriter key does NOT work on my computer, trying to have it fixed.

Anyway, mission accomplished, I scammed those other Wiki editors into assuring my unsigned music artists listings will never be challenged nor removed again, no matter who objects. They are now completely untouchable. lol lol The secret is this: you only need object strongly, "loudly," and hysterically to a Wiki editor's ruling and they always unite together to do the exact opposite of your objection. lol lol lol I learned that lesson a long time ago and, of course, applied it ever since. The best thing is this: once Wiki editors make any formal dispute ruling they never revoke it either lol lol lol When it comes to understanding reverse psychology, well, sweetie, that was my major in college and I am THE expert lol lol lol And that's how you make the big $$$$ in the music biz, my darling---- it's called big time SMARTS, and I got them and then some, that's why my clients love me. lol lol

!MusicBizLady —Preceding comment was added at 10:41, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

As an alternative to the signature button you can type ~~~~.
Regarding the rest of your message, I must confess that I have not the slightest idea what you are talking about. Stifle (talk) 22:02, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

All I'm saying, stifle my sweet, is that the most certain manner to ensure Wikipeea never removes a listing is to INSIST upon its removal and attack the editors who support it. Then like trained Skinner rats, they band together, circle the wagons, and defend the listing until the day they die lol lol Done it before and it works like a charm. The music artists I've attacked will never be removed and never be tagged again, I promise you that lol lol I got that bit of advice from a fellow who once worked as an active editor here and then left in disgust in a bitter disagreement with the guy who set up this whole internet thingie. He told me the secret to ensuring listings will never be challenged, no matter how less than notable or dumb they might be, and so far he's been 100% correct lol lol

[edit] Patrick Briscoe

Hello, Please can you help me in reinstating the Patrick Briscoe page. I believe you deleted it in April.

Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Poochlet (talkcontribs) 09:00, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

While I'm happy to answer questions, it looks like your question could have been answered and resolved more quickly if you had used my message wizard. It's linked as "Talk" after my name and at the top of my talk page. Why not try it next time?
Patrick Briscoe was deleted by User:Davewild and not me. You would need to discuss the matter with him. Please note that there was a unanimous decision to delete the page, and you can view the archived deletion discussion here. Stifle (talk) 10:23, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] CENT conclusions

I've stumbled upon Wikipedia:Centralized discussion/Conclusions, and my first thought was to make it {{historical}}. But, I've noticed you are a single person still updating it, so I would like to ask: why? Conclusions will be always looked upon on the original talk pages anyway, nobody will search in a such well-hidden place. --Kubanczyk (talk) 19:19, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Well, the page is there more with the intention of having a link to the old pages that have been taken off {{cent}}. It doesn't particularly need to include conclusions, but if someone wants to make a new centralized discussion topic and can see that a previous discussion of the same topic failed, they might be able to save their time. Stifle (talk) 10:26, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
I had no idea the Conclusions page existed. It seems like a good idea! EdJohnston (talk) 14:30, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
It seems obvious that when anyone adds anything to WP:CENT they first should check the Talk page and archives, it is unlikely that they look at Conclusions page because (a) hard to find (b) the conclusions can be safely assumed as outdated, because no synchronization is kept with the primary source. If you insist on keeping it for archival reasons, I would suggest naming it Archive instead of Conclusions. This would be the obvious name. --Kubanczyk (talk) 11:43, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
Just my personal observation, but the postings on CENT often appear to be well-intentioned but a waste of time, since these discussions are often long and inconclusive. Having a 'scoresheet' that shows that some of them have a good outcome might be a positive thing. EdJohnston (talk) 16:59, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
I think I can agree with that, Ed. Kubanczyk, feel free to move the page or nominate it for MFD. Stifle (talk) 09:33, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Y Done renamed it. --Kubanczyk (talk) 11:43, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Rollback Request

Hi Stifle, I would like to be considered for rollback permission. Thanks --Noxia (talk) 17:09, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

I don't want to be mean here, but per our conversation on Noxia's talk, they might need to get a little more comfortable with using undo properly before going to rollback. Franamax (talk) 17:30, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
Replied at User talk:Noxia. Stifle (talk) 09:35, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Copyright free

Dear Stifle, This image was made by a contributor who attached the copyright free tag to this stunning quartzite statue of pharaoh Amenhotep III--the father of Akhenaten. [4] The picture is another copyright free image from egyptarchive.co.uk.

Do you know how I would create this specific CF tag in the picture? I assume it would be {{pd-XX}} but I don't know the exact words are for the two XX's. Or would public domain be good enough? I'm sorry to disturb you...its just that I'm an amateur at uploading pictures to Wikicommons. Thank You from Canada Leoboudv (talk) 05:27, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
The tag on that page is {{Copyrighted free use}}.
If you create an image yourself and want to release it to the public domain, use {{PD-self}}. Stifle (talk) 09:37, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Thank You Stifle for your time and pointers on Wikicommons tags. You are a very kind and decent chap indeed! Regards, Leoboudv (talk) 19:39, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Attack images also suspected as covyvio

Hello, Stifle. I saw you deleted the attack image uploaded by Michael Friedrich (talk · contribs). He uploaded also suspicious images in the same vein (uploaded on the same date as soon as he joined in the Wikipedia). I've also requested other images, but still two images are undeleted. Image:Gohomehitler.jpg, Image:Azzuritomb.JPG, all of the bashing images with low quality look captured from TV clips and are not being used as fair use. If you have a time, can you take a look at them? Also, I think the user in question needs a proper warning by an admin. Thanks. --Appletrees (talk) 11:36, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Gone. Stifle (talk) 12:27, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. --Appletrees (talk) 12:30, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re: 3RR blocks

Hi Stifle, just wanted to ask what was the rationale behind blocking Reezy for 8 hours? Isn't 24 the norm for first vio's? Thanks in advance for your reply (Btw, I'm not questioning the block, just inquiring about the length :-) ScarianCall me Pat! 12:42, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Not as far as I'm aware — the original vote which enacted 3RR said that all 3RR blocks could be up to 24 hours. Stifle (talk) 12:46, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] the Saint Townsville

Hi i never started this page but i have ask why did you delete it without any discussion? i was adding a ref to the page at the time you deleted it and this is a landmark here in Townsville, here is the ref i was going to add http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200203/s506796.htm plus google has a lot more if i needed them, so can i get you view on doing this page again (but worded better and with refs). Thanks Thuringowacityrep (talk) 12:34, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

While I'm happy to answer questions, it looks like your question could have been answered and resolved more quickly if you had used my message wizard. It's linked as "Talk" after my name and at the top of my talk page. Why not try it next time?
Go ahead and recreate it. The only sentence on the page that I could make any sense of was "The Saint is a famous land mark in Townsville, Queensland which was painted by a group of men in 1962". The rest was rubbish. Stifle (talk) 20:51, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
  • Thank you, will start the page again soon and when done, would love it if you could look over it and let me know your thoughts.

And sorry i didn't use the wizard thing as i just clicked on the Talk link after your name as i do with any talk page, so im not sure why i never went to the wizard. Thanks Thuringowacityrep (talk) 07:16, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Photograph of Mohammad-Taqi Bahar

Dear Stifle, I am about to upload a photograph of Mohammad-Taqi Bahar which I have just received, upon my request, from his family/friends. Please kindly have this photograph under your kind protection until their official permission arrives at Wikipedia (I had told them that I needed the photograph for Wikipeda, however had not sent them the instructions regarding the required copy-right statement, not wishing to put them off by the fear of administrative burden — I am now going to send them the Wikipedia e-mail address and other relevant details; for your information, the person I have been in touch with is Ms Hélène Saraj and her e-mail address is: bahar.site@yahoo.com). With thanks in advance and kind regards, --BF 14:21, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

Just wish to mention that I have now forwarded an e-mail to Ms Hélène Saraj, requesting her to write to permissions-en@wikimedia.org (I have also instructed her about the details of what her e-mail should contain). Please kindly keep an eye on the case. With kind regards, --BF 16:45, 8 June 2008 (UTC).

[edit] So many asteroids...

I noticed you left a comment for one of the creators of the many, many essentially content-free articles on "inherently notable" asteroids. You may be interested in this WPJ discussion about what to do with them. Alai (talk) 14:54, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] College of Charleston Image Replacement

Hi there, I work at the College of Charleston in Marketing and Communications and I am trying to replace the seal with our new wordmark. I only have the png format, not svg, altho I will ask our tech people for one. I would like to have the wordmark centered, can you help with that? Thanks!Monteith (talk) 13:24, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Is it better now? Stifle (talk) 13:25, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] emailing deleted article?

Hello--You recently deleted the article Swedish auction. I'm not asking for it to be re-instated. I recall seeing somewhere that you could request that the deleted article be emailed to you. I'd be very grateful if you could point me back to that information. Cretog8 (talk) 13:25, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

You can request it either at Wikipedia:Deletion review or by contacting anyone on this list, including me. But you have to set an email address at Special:Preferences first. Stifle (talk) 13:27, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

I note that you have deleted Swedish auction stating that it is (previously) deletad material (G4). But this is NOT previously delated material! The TITLE of the recent article was the same as that of the previous article but the CONTENTS were totally new taking every precaution to make sure that there is nothing offensive in the recent article. Please have a close look at the contents that you have deleted. Let the recent article "stand on its own feet" and be judged by its own merits, not on the contents of the previous article. Please! - On the Swedish auction Talk page I added some background material. That was also deleted. - By the way, I note that you are an Irish Wikipedian. It may interest you to know that in 1968 my wife and I were in Dublin and Limerick on our honeymoon. Sadly my wife died in 1976, but our days in Ireland belong to my fondest memories. Sincerely, Max7437 (talk) 16:22, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
