[edit] Barnstar

Thank you, Sticks. And it reminds me that I should get back to SOO instead of trawling through category lists! Cheers! ~ Florrie talk 15:23, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Barnstar

The Original Barnstar
This barnstar is awarded to Sticks66 because of his continuing and outstanding contributions to rugby league related articles, especially Grand final sections. SpecialWindler talk 01:53, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

Thats all right. SpecialWindler talk 09:51, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

And well deserved, too. That's a huge job you're doing, Sticks, most impressive. Florrie 00:58, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The Running Man Barnstar

The Running Man Barnstar
Awarding this has been on my to-do list for a while. Sticks66's Grand Final contributions to season articles has complemented his outstanding effort overall over many months to the rugby league WikiProject and its focus articles. Furthermore, to be able to write so many match reports in such little time is a further credit to his status as a Wikipedia editor. Well done mate and keep up the good work. Cheers, mdmanser 11:51, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Rugby League Images

Try Picture Australia as it has about 1200 rugby league images. Boylo (talk) 07:07, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

That website is found at http://www.pictureaustralia.org/ Sticks. MDM (talk) 07:28, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Copyright free photos for our articles on Aust RL Old Timers

Relocated from WP:RL Project talk page

I may have mentioned before that I have more failure than success at uploading images, so I'm requesting assistance of the Project to upload to our articles 10 old photos I've found. All are usable under the pre-1955 "copyright expired" rationale that Boylo refers to above and which he successfully quotes in clear detail on the image used on Harry Bath.

The shots are at http://www.pictureaustralia.org/

PLAYERS: Search "Harold Horder" for two that could add to Harold Horder; search "Mick Madsen" reveals a shot & two cartoons for Mick Madsen; search "Duncan Thompson" for a shot and a caricature for Duncan Thompson; search "Vic Hey" for an excellent portrait of the great Vic Hey.

- If this is what you are after, I'll keep going. I'm using the same Public domain permission as used by Boylo so I can blame him if these get pulled! Florrieleave a note 23:05, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

ADMINISTRATORS: Search "Harry Sumerland" (sic) & "J J Giltinan" for photos to add to the stubs Harry Sunderland and J J Giltinan.

GROUP SHOTS: Search "Founders of Queensland Rugby Football League". This shot would perfectly add early in the History paragraph of Queensland Rugby League plus also appropriate to repeat on the individual articles of Micky Dore and George Watson (rugby footballer).

TEAM SHOTS: Not generally suggesting we add team shots to individ. articles but for Jim Craig (rugby league) & Bill Tyquin I think the shots from the respective searches "unbeaten Queensland 1924" and "Queensland Rugby League Team in 1949" are appropriate since a) there are no other shots of these guys, b) they're the captains in each and part of their notability is their status as national & state captains.

I can upload the whole pic but I could also crop the individual from the enlarged versions of the pics if you want? Florrieleave a note 23:27, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

FINALLY: Search "two captains shake hands" reveals a great shot to add to NSWRL season 1934 since it shows Dave Brown (rugby league) (in his distinctive headgear) and Frank McMillan shaking hands and seems to indeed be the Grand Final. Also appropriate on McMillan's article.

Not a free image - This image is provided for research purposes only and must not be reproduced without the prior permission of the State Library of NSW. Florrieleave a note 23:56, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Can anyone help me with this endeavour ? I'll get on any missing infoboxes for any above players -Sticks66 12:01, 26 March 2008

Fantastic, thanks. And what about the cropped shots of Tyquin and Craig. Wonders never cease. Ta -Sticks66 11:17, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
I cropped Mr Watson and Mr Dore from the Founders photo if you want a clearer head shot. Not that the photo itself is particularly clear, but you can get a better look at them than seen in the group pic.

[edit] Uploading Public Domain photographs

I'm not sure how much information you need but as I am used to writing job descriptions from scratch, I'll start at the beginning. This is for Mozilla, by the way, but I think it's pretty similar to IE if you use it.

  1. Select photograph from PicturesAustralia
  2. Save image to your desktop (or other folder) by right click, save image as
  3. In the 'save image' pop-up, type image name in file name text box (e.g. M.J. Dore 1907.jpg)
  4. Click on 'save' and file will be sent to your desktop (or other folder)
  5. In Wikipedia, click on Upload file in the left hand menu and the Wikipedia Upload page will appear
  6. Towards the bottom of the page, go to Do you already know the license and are familiar with our image policies? Go directly to the upload form. and click on upload form.
  7. The Upload file page will appear. Scroll past all the warnings and other text until you get to the upload file form.
  8. Next to the source filename text field is the browse button. Select the browse button.
  9. Select the file from your desktop or other folder from the file upload pop-up.
  10. Select open on the pop-up and the file sourcename and destination filename will appear in the text fields on the upload file form.
  11. If you wish to change the destination filename at this point you may do so.
  12. In the summary field, type in {{PD-Australia}}.
  13. If you wish to type in any other comment such as 'image cropped from Image:Joe_Bloggs_1949.jpg' type it underneath the PD-Australia template.
  14. Ignore Licensing and go down to upload file
  15. Select upload file and that's it.

Hope that helps! Have fun. Florrieleave a note 10:49, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] RU infobox

I have hopefully fixed the request you made on my talk page, (I haven't got time to check because WP job quence is high) if it hasn't, request me and I'll look into more thouroghly again.  The Windler talk  13:05, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Team of the Century

Sorry I've been so woeful on the Rugby League front. Yes, I like the sandbox - I've fixed up Reg and Mal's Team of the Century article and I may as well redlink to the Team of the Century page. What are you going to call it? Australian Rugby League's Team of the Century in line with the 100 greatest article? Florrieleave a note 12:36, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

I've just got the Fox Sports link so far. Haven't checked the NRL.com pages to see if it has been updated there yet. But a news source is good for notability. The para for Mal (combined 100 greatest and team of) is
In February 2008, Meninga was named in the list of Australia's 100 Greatest Players (1908-2007) which was commissioned by the NRL and ARL to celebrate the code's centenary year in Australia.[1][2] Meninga went on to be named as one of the centres, along with Reg Gasnier, in Australian rugby league's Team of the Century. Announced on 17 April 2008, the team is the panels' majority choice for each of the thirteen starting positions and four interchange players.[3]
How does that read? Florrieleave a note 14:19, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hardman Herb Narvo

Yeah definitely. I especially like these guys that played for Australia AND went to war and stuff too. Narvo was a boxing champion was well! Awesome. They don't build 'em like that anymore. Yeah, I think now with the centenary is a good time to go about working on the history of rugby league. There are some good resources available and I've been trying to capitalise. Check out the rugby league exhibit at the National Museum of Australia website if you haven't already. I think I put a link on the 2008 NRL season page. Some great pictures. Old ones too. Dunno if we can just go and steal em coz they're old. I heard maybe we can.--Jeff79 (talk) 01:37, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Pre-1955 Copyright expiry on photos

Hi Sticks66,
I've been wondering that too, but its my interpretation that Aust copyright laws as briefly outlined in Template:PD-Australia, override that of the library. Perhaps the libraries add that statement to each image they upload so they don't have to continually update expired copyrights etc. I had a look at ACC Information Sheet G23 (Duration of copyright) (Sep 2005), and it states that: "copyright lasted until 50 years from the end of the year of the artist’s death. However, different rules applied for: photographs (if taken before 1 May 1969, 50 years from the end of the year they were taken; on or after 1 May 1969, 50 years from the end of the year of first publication)". All a bit confusing really, but I figure that if you follow the PD-Australia guidelines, it's all good. Hope that was in some way helpful! Loopla (talk) 12:40, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re: He came, he went

Totally agree. I take hope from the fact this happened once before (I'm pretty sure it did) and he was editing again within a month or so. The project already feels a little rudderless! Florrieleave a note 05:52, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Well, if Super league or the French Rugby Union offer me more... Florrieleave a note 02:04, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
