[edit] Mathematical olympiads

One of my major intrests are mathematical olympiads, especially the Vlaamse Wiskunde Olympiade (VWO) and the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). Myself, I received a First Price in the VWO 2005, and a Honorable Mention in the IMO 2005 in Mexico. My favorite domain is combinatorics. I am also active in the training of younger students for mathematical competitions.

Another major intrest is music. I play flugelhorn myself. I also listen a lot to music, especially rock music, as well music of the past as music of the future. I can enjoy many different styles and bands and I am always eager to discover new bands (suggestions are always welcome). Among my favorite bands are Pixies, Sigur Rós, Ramones, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, The Velvet Underground, Nick Drake, Kraftwerk, Admiral Freebee, Isis and many others.

I can enjoy good mathematical books, which have a fluent style (not too technical), but still are not too easy or shallow, and offer enough interesting mathematical ideas. Among my favority writers are Douglas Hofstadter (GEB), Rudy Rucker and Edwin Abbott Square (Flatland). Other favorite mathematical stories include The Music of the Primes, Four Colors Suffice and The man who loved only numbers. More technical but highly recommended books are Foundations of Combinatorics with Applications, Mathematical Logic and the Foundations of Mathematics: An Introductory Survey and Proofs that Really Count: The Art of Combinatorial Proof.

I also enjoy some intriguing English literature. Favorite writers include Lewis Carroll, Jack London (The Call of the Wild), Jack Kerouac (On the Road), George Orwell (Animal Farm).

I watch Formula 1 since 1995. My enthousaism for racing has weakened a bit over the last jears, but I still follow the races closely. I'm also part of the team behind the Dutch Formula 1 news website InsideF1.

[edit] Computers, internet and webdevelopment

Since 2000, I gained a lot of experience in webdevelopment. I work a lot with XHTML (following W3C-recommendations of course), PHP, MySQL and Javascript (Ajax).

I'm also part of the team behind the Dutch Formula 1 news website InsideF1, and member of the webteam of students organisation Wina.

I also have a little programming experience in Java. I mainly use the Ubuntu Linux operating system, and I have some experience in working on Unix systems. I use the Mozilla Firefox web browser.
