[edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Steve Heller
Can you explain how the decision was made to delete my article "Steve Heller"? I understood that the rule was that rough consensus was needed to delete, whereas I cannot see that any such rough consensus exists in the discussion; in fact, there are two deletes, one neutral, and three keeps. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stheller (talk • contribs)
- Hello! Thank you for your e-mail. I took the decision to userfy your article rather than delete outright as you are the author-in-question and it might be useful for other editors to know a little about your background, this being the intention of Userpages. I removed the text from the article space as there was no assertion of notability in the article. Many people publish books, some through reputable publishers and others through vanity presses. AfD helps to weed out the vanity publishers and authors through official publishing houses can be equivocal. Did you win any notable awards for your books? Do you have anything in your biography that can be considered a notable achievement when measured against WP:BIO? If not, then the userpage is sufficient; if so, make a note of it and ask for your possibly-notable biography to be reconsidered. Regards, (aeropagitica) (talk) 23:03, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
According to my reading of the criteria for notability, as well as several of the "keep" recommendations, I should be considered notable. The claim was that I have published a number of books, and the citations indicate that they are with major publishers. Is there something else I would need to say to claim notability? If so, what would it be? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stheller (talk • contribs)
- Hello again! If you believe that you are notable then recreate the article including all of the evidence for notability. It is important to include all of the evidence and not just to repost the previously-deleted version, as this could be tagged {{db-repost}} and speedily deleted. Your article may go up for the AfD process again if another editor reviews the content and decides that the claim of notability is equivocal. All articles on Wikipedia are under constant review. If you have unequivocal evidence of notability then please present it, as it will form the keep argument in-and-of itself. You may have to be prepared to defend your article again at some point in the future. Please also read WP:AUTO and WP:VANITY in addition to WP:BIO in relation to autobiographical articles. - If you look at [1], I am more than willing to admit to faulty reasoning. (aeropagitica) (talk) 07:17, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
As far as I know, everyone makes errors from time to time, myself certainly among them. Thanks for admitting you may have done so in this case. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stheller (talk • contribs)
[edit] Your bio
Steve, what year were you born? It's normal to add that to the heading on your bio page. Wjhonson 20:12, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
- You mentioned that your Colloquy has a stub? Do you mean the high-IQ society? I was idly looking at the Deletion Review and saw that Mega Society didn't make it, so then I looked at the High IQ Page and saw Colloquy there, but the article doesn't exist. Maybe you are referring to the Colloquy disambiguation page ? Or else this is some other Colloquy ? Wjhonson 23:24, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
