[edit] Image source problem with Image:Ying Yang Tai chi.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Ying Yang Tai chi.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 22:21, 8 October 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. [edit] Kiryat Gat photo
Hello. You have recently added an image of Kiryat Gat to the city's article. The caption and the image title claims the picture is from 1941. Kiryat Gat was founded in 1955. Please check your source, the picture may be from a later date, or of a different place. Derwig (talk) 18:08, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
- Could the image possibly be of kibbutz Gat founded in 1941? see Hebrew wikipedia article -- Derwig (talk) 15:32, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
You could be right, Derwig - since all that the photo label says is the Jewish settlement of Gat - the distinction of Kiryat Gat and kibbutz Gat are not made. From my understanding, there was a settlement at what was later called Kiryat Gat well before the town was actually established - but it is not clear whether the photo is from one or the other site.StevenBirnam (talk) 10:42, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Tiverya Flag.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Tiverya Flag.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 20:21, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Kotel photo
Hi! Just wondering if you remember where you got Image:Yerushalayim praying at haKotel 1900.jpg from? I want to upload it onto commons and it needs a source. Thanks, Chesdovi (talk) 20:06, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
Hello, Chesvodi: I was sent the photo by a friend in Yerushalayim. But I do believe it has been posted on several sites on the web. The photo was taken almost 100 years ago, and I believe is part of the Matson collection.
My friend pointed me, believe it or not, to the Palestine Remembered site, where he had found a lot of old photos of many cities and towns in Israel from the Mandate period and before. I checked with him on this photo and he said it was at http://www.palestineremembered.com/GeoPoints/Jerusalem_5180/Picture_15412.html
BTW: Noticed that you had done work on Chassidic families in Stanislov - Ivan--Frankivsk - Stanislowow Would you have any information on the Jewish community there, other than the Chassidim? StevenBirnam (talk) 17:26, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] License tagging for Image:Haviva Reik at Haifa.JPG
Thanks for uploading Image:Haviva Reik at Haifa.JPG. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.
For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 17:06, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Aharon Shulov book cover.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Aharon Shulov book cover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 19:30, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Deletion of Migvan
Hi, StevenBirnam! Just wanted to drop you a note about the article Migvan that I deleted. You're absolutely right - there are processes for deleting articles. One of them is the Speedy Deletion process. If, for example, an article is just spam, or is a copyright violation, or has no context, then it is eligible for "speedy deletion", which adds it to Category:Candidates for speedy deletion. Any user can add one of the "speedy" banners to an article. Then an admin comes along and cleans up afterwards, deleting articles that truly do fall into one of the speedy criteria.
In the case of Migvan, the article was started yesterday by User:SZAgassi. About half an hour later, User:Martijn Hoekstra added the speedy tag. Four hours after that, I deleted it. All of that happened per the process and procedures laid out in WP:SPEEDY.
The reason Martijn added the speedy tag is because the article contained two sentences and a link to the kibbutz's website. Nothing about the article asserted any sort of nobility or said why the kibbutz was important or should be contained in an encyclopedia. It said nothing about being one of four urban ones.
So next time something happens to an article to which you feel attached, please consider that whatever happened might have been done by someone trying to improve the work. Please do not assume that the editors involved want to hurt you or the article in any way. We are all working toward the goal of a better encyclopedia. Thanks! -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 20:41, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Shmuel tankusExample.jpg
Thank you for uploading Image:Shmuel tankusExample.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 20:29, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] AfD nomination of Yakum
An editor has nominated Yakum, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Yakum and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 00:44, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Airedale terrier image issues
I'm nominating for deletion the following images:
- Image:Airedale Terrier Today Janet Huxley.jpg
- Image:Airedale Terriers An Owner's Companion Swash and Millar.jpg
because there's really no discussion of these books and I don't see that we need a discussion of these books, and so there's no good reason to have them on WP. I've removed them from the Airedale Terrier article because they didn't add anything to the list of reference titles.
Also, I've flagged Image:Airedale Terrier Champion.jpg as questionable; the page doesn't give the source, and GFDL or any other release can be given only by the image's creator. Elf | Talk 20:27, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Wikipedia:Meetup/Montreal
I see you are a user located in Montréal, you may be interested in: Wikipedia:Meetup/Montreal. Please add your name to the "Interested" or to the "Not interested" list. Date is set for May 3rd 2008 and Buffet La Stanza is the proposed location. If you have another idea for the location; propose away! Please pass on to any Montreal Wikis you maybe aware of and who are not yet listed as interested, may be interested, or not interested. Pro bug catcher (talk • contribs). 04:57, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Merci pour votre invitation. I would be delighted to join the meetup, but malheureusement, I most probably be out of town on that date. Please keep me updated - perhaps we can form a mailroom to keep all Montreal-based Wikipedians advised.(StevenBirnam) 12:22, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Semel palyam.JPG
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Semel palyam.JPG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 22:00, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
This logo or emblem of the Palyam has the same origins and Fair Use Rationale as the Palmach emblem, Palmach.jpg, it is a logo of an organization, in this case, an organization over 50 years old. It is believed that the low-res image qualify for fair use on Wikipedia under US and Israeli copyright laws. As this, and other offical military emblems are displayed on Wikipedia, using the same fair use statement, what more is needed - especially since, in this case, and the Palmach emblem cited, the emblems were first posted on the Hebrew Wikipedia pages, with no issue regarding usage. [edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Haviva Reik at Haifa.JPG
Thanks for uploading Image:Haviva Reik at Haifa.JPG. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by STBotI. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 22:41, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
