Thanks for you article of Bull. Chim. and the other early organic journals in their various series. we are delighted to have the help filling these in.!!!!
It would help if you could add whether any of them is available on line, and if so, where; also a statement about the main places where it was indexed, and for the parts that were in Web of science, what the impact factors were--if you have access to the older JCRs. Also, do you have names of editors in chief?--these are useful, because they give us names of people that we need articles for if we dont already have them.
I'm not sure its useful to give a list of see alsos for the other major organic journals. -- the category does that pretty well. But no harm in it. But what would be really helpful is if you could write a page for the Institute (with redirects from its earlier names), and similarly for the other sponsoring bodies. Does the french WP or the German WP have articles on either these journals or the societies? If they do, and you'd like help translating them,. let me know. (there've been a good many people working on scientific journals, so we have some experience at trying to standardize the information-- )
Do you by any chance have access to Ulrichs or CASSI? if so, you should list the entries for the journals in them as references. If not, someone else will. There are over 1000 scientific journals in WP, and several times that to go. DGG (talk) 05:38, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
- Hi to DGG, thanks for your comment. To answer some of your questions: Some of these journals I have added to WP are not online at the moment. Of course the contents are indexed by various abstacting services, first of all CAS. But that would not be helpful to link on CAS for users of WP. I guess, in some years the copyright holders of these journals will digitalize them, maybe (very probably) they are already digitalized, as some of these journals have been microfilmed already before. Also, in some cases the copyright holder is not the society as the first publisher, but a differnt publishing house, which do the publishing in the name of the society. Since the most journals I have added to WP have already ceased publication and they have a very long publication history, it is nearly impossibly to add all the name of former chief editors for all these old journals, because you need to have acces to all the printed issues and take all the information out of them. That will be work for one person for several month, which I hardly can do. I suspect, if the names of the chief editors are really as important for these old journals.
- I agree that it would be very useful to have also a history of corporate bodies, how they changed names, places, and so on... This is indeed a hard task, but there are some very specialized publications on these topics in every big scientific libary. I agree, that WP would also be a better place to have all these datas online, with links to former and actual names of corporate bodies. But to include the history of the corporate bodies, this is a similar hard work as for the names of the chief editors. I will add the information, of course, if and when they are available.
- With respect to german entries on WP, there are indeed some of them, which I have already corrected. If I will find some of them, I will add a link to other WP's, of course. Due to time reasons, I only can do this occasional. And I will look on bibliographic data of some of the scientific journals time by time to verify them.
- I have access to CASSI (I have edited the CODEN article on WP), which is indeed a very powerful resource to verify bibliographic data (not in all cases (like for Bull. Soc. Chim Fr., but it is helpful anyway and can give hints). Have fun..--Steven69 12:02, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Catuabine
Thank you for the very insightful article you "wrote" - it really taught me a lot of things I never knew before. I look forward to seeing your next installation of graphics that tell a story.
- Hi 172.167.134.93, I am pleased to read your comment about this very long article. Indeed some people do tell these graphics a lot, but I guess you are not part of this group. In addition, before you claim about too long articles, it would be rather helpful and also your turn to make it more longer. This article is just the start of an article, and it is the basis for further work. You are invited to contribute to this by adding fruitful text parts... Creating this world was not finished within some days. And some people also do other things besides browsing the WP only. Have fun --217.250.18.81 18:08, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Dab pages
Hi,
To let you know, disambiguation pages are for confusing terms found on wikipedia, not for external links. If it doesn't have a wikipage, it doesn't go on a DAB page.
Thanks,
