[edit] Regarding edits to Rio Dell, Sonoma County, California
Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia, Stepheng3! However, your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove spam from Wikipedia. If you were trying to insert a good link, please accept my creator's apologies, but note that the link you added, matching rule \..+-county\.org, is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. [edit] Regarding Sonoma County Railroads
Thanks for the kind words about my edits. I, too, am a Sonoma County engineer -- not yet retired, though. It's good to have another engineer checking my work. Thewellman (talk) 03:03, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] January 2008
Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to Red hair: You may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit was inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you. -MBK004 04:13, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Austin_Creek_State_Recreation_Area
I was over at UserRickK's talk page and noticed that you left him a message concerning copy and paste from the state park website. Did you see his comments on the article's Talk page? Corvus cornixtalk 00:53, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
Um, I don't know, I thought that all California state government produced web content was public domain, but I could be wrong. Corvus cornixtalk 05:24, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I suppose it's no big deal now, if you ever find out what the state's copyright rules are, could you let me know? Thanks. Corvus cornixtalk 16:42, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Santa Rosa edit
Your most recent edit of Santa Rosa [1] has a description of "(rv misleading wikilink)". However, it looks like you added the wikilink in instead of taking it out. Do you want to revert your reversion? Dori (talk) 22:42, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Marin Creek
Hey, would you add the coördinates to the river-box at Marin Creek like you did to Alhambra Creek, please? Thanks dude!W-i-k-i-l-o-v-e-r-1-7 (talk) 00:22, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
I found them, but I did not enter them properly would you be able to fix them?W-i-k-i-l-o-v-e-r-1-7 (talk) 21:02, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

By no means at all, i'll be most satisfied with the correct and current mouth's coordinates but the historical one may be of interest also.W-i-k-i-l-o-v-e-r-1-7 (talk) 01:47, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Representatives in infoboxes
You do have a good point. I intend to make pages for every district after I finished adding the representatives to the infoboxes. I wanted to add the representatives to be consistent with the city leaders and councils, but now I see your point. Socal gal at heart (talk) 17:58, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Fort Point Lighthouse and Fort Point Light (California)
It has been the convention for US lighthouses to name them as "XX Light" rather than "XX Lighthouse", since that is the USCG convention. Also, there is also a Fort Point Light in Texas. With that in mind, I intend to ask that the newly merged article be moved back to Fort Point Light (California). Mangoe (talk) 21:43, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] re: Use template/ Lake Pillsbury article
It is my understanding that either method is acceptable for Wikipedia. What is the reason you say to do the references with template? Marcia Wright (talk) 05:08, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
Thankyou for your reply, and you have a good reason-I also like the book-type footnotes in the smaller font. I was unaware that this template produces footnotes that way. I am seriously considering this option.
The only downside is that as I am getting older- my eyesight is preferring larger letters :) Sincerely, Marcia Wright (talk) 13:28, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Category:Transportation WikiProjects
Hi Stepheng3, I see that you have created a new category today and are linking articles into it. However, is it really needed as we already have a category Category:WikiProject Transport? It is not clear to me what the difference between the two categories is intended to be?Pyrotec (talk) 19:26, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
- I believe Category:WikiProject Transport is specifically for that project and its subprojects, whereas Category:Transportation WikiProjects can be used more broadly for wikiprojects related to transportation which (for whatever reason) don't consider themselves to be subprojects of WikiProject Transport. But I grant you that the WikiProject categorization system is a mess, and I'm unsure how it should be fixed. Stepheng3 (talk) 19:30, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
-
- OK I can understand that, but Category:WikiProject Transport has been in existence since 25 June 2004, whereas Category:Transportation WikiProjects was created today. It has 11 articles in it and it looks you put ten in to it; and I put one in, but that one was already in Category:Transport. It appears to be quite feasible to delete the new category and move the few that don't already appear in WP Transport into it. The main problem is that Category:WikiProject Transport is not listed in Category:WikiProjects, but that could be added in place of Category:Transportation WikiProjects. Pyrotec (talk) 20:04, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

- I'm working to diffuse categories and projects out of Category:WikiProjects as much as possible. It's not important to me whether the transportation WikiProjects end up under Category:WikiProject Transport or Category:Transportation WikiProjects, though I have a slight preference for the former. Let me know how you wish to proceed, and I'll cooperate. Stepheng3 (talk) 20:10, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

- Category:Transportation WikiProjects now has 10 articles in it, most of which were already in Category:WikiProject Transport; in contrast Category:WikiProject Transport has 16 articles and 20 subcategories in it, and it was set up almost four years ago. It looks like Wikipedia:WikiProject Connecticut Routes is the only one that needs to be moved. I suggest that the one category be moved and then Category:Transportation WikiProjects be deleted.Pyrotec (talk)

- I notice that you have added a category called "Transporation" (sic) to Wikipedia:WikiProject Gliding. Apart from the typo, I have to inform you that Gliding is a sport, like sailing, not a method of transport. I have therefore deleted this erroneous category. JMcC (talk) 20:44, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Category diffusion
The WikiProject Barnstar | ||
For your remarkable efforts in helping WikiProjects better understand what articles are in the categories with which they work. Few people have even heard of all the projects you've helped out in this way, let alone helped them all in such a useful way. A small token of appreciation from "all of us" WikiProjects out there is certainly in order. John Carter (talk) 22:49, 21 April 2008 (UTC) |
[edit] Art WikiProjects vs WikiProject Arts
You unilaterally reparented Dance, Circus, Music, etc WikiProject categories to Category:Art WikiProjects. These naturally are parented by WikiProject Arts and thus Category:WikiProject Arts. Please provide your rationale for your change. I have noted this at WP Arts. -- Paul foord (talk) 10:23, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
- Agreed, plus Category:WikiProject Gemology and Jewelry would not normally be considered to belong under either. Johnbod (talk) 10:50, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
- I thought it was silly for people to have to click down through WP Arts to get to the more specialized WPs, but I've since learned that thats how things are done in the WP category tree. I'm reverting all my reparents that took things out of WP Arts. It's pretty clear to me that jewelry is an artform, so I'm going to leave that where it is. Stepheng3 (talk) 16:20, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Default Sort Template
Hello I saw that you added the following template to one of the stub articles I created. * {{DEFAULTSORT:Last, First}} I was just curious to know exactly what this template does. Does it automatically add the categories for you or does it simply make it searchable? Blahblah5555 (talk) 21:23, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Category:Australian rules coaches
Hi Stepheng3. I notice you tagged Category:Australian rules coaches for deletion. The only reason I hadn't tagged the category myself was that it hasn't yet been empty for 4 days. Incidentally, do you know of any way to tell how long a category has been empty? I only know how long this one has been empty because I'm the one who emptied it. Thanks. DH85868993 (talk) 03:10, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- I don't know of any way to tell for certain whether a category has been empty for four days. I think most editors would look at the history, and if the empty category was created more than 4 days ago, they would assume that the category had been empty since then. What I sometimes do, when I'm feeling cautious, is flag the empty category with {{popcat}} and then check back four days later. Even that's not foolproof, of course, but it gives the creator a chance to realize that they forgot to populate the category, if that's what happened. Stepheng3 (talk) 16:40, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Need geobox
Dear Stephen, I added a photo to this article- Cache Creek (Yolo County, California) as well as tags/rating on talk page, but it needs a geobox, coordinates, etc. Do you have the time to do this? If so, much appreciated.
Cheers, Marcia Wright (talk) 16:36, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Special:Uncategorizedcategories
Good work at Special:Uncategorizedcategories. If you want a new project (since you pretty much cleared out the last), you might want to check out Special:Wantedcategories and evaluate each one on there to see if they should be created or not. A lot there do need to be created, but there are also a lot of misspellings, stuff retained in previously CFD'd/UCFD'd categories, etc. that need emptying. Some also probably simply need removal from a nonexistant category that shouldn't be created. Thanks, VegaDark (talk) 23:25, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Thankyou
Thanks for the help on Cache Creek-Looks great!!! One question though-Isn't Riverside County in Southern California?
Marcia Wright (talk) 13:57, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
- Good point. I think GNIS is confused about this. I've corrected the Geobox and categories. Stepheng3 (talk) 06:30, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] "Unnecessary" nbsp
In your recent change to Healdsburg, California (here), your comment said "rm unnecessary nbsp".
Actually (and oddly enough), it is necessary. Template:Infobox_Settlement says,
Names are automatically wiki-linked if an article exists; if the target is not the intended one, insert a character such as " " to disable the link.
Jim Wood is a common enough name that it links to a disambig page, but this particular Mr. Wood isn't one of the ones covered there, so he needs to be un-wiki'd. I've added the character back in (although at the end of his name this time). Dori (Talk • Contribs) 01:38, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
