[edit] Discussion from Talk:Japan Hiroshima Mission
I added several references to legitimate, primary sources addressing the mission and removed the notability concern. Please note if these references are not sufficient, as I have a wealth of data in my library that I can search through for additional references. - Orphan tag - The article still only is linked to on two articles, specifically Norman D. Shumway (a former Mission President) and Mission (LDS Church). This is not enough to justify removing the orphan tag.
- Notability tag - only two of the recently added references both made direct mention to the specific topic of this article (i.e. the Japan Hiroshima Mission) as well as otherwise meet WP:RS. Individual missions of the LDS Church are not generally considered notable in and of themselves, and none of the references provided to this point have established notability.
- Stekun (talk · contribs), I hope you don't become offended by this, but it is highly unlikely that this article will remain on Wikipedia more than a month or two (if even that) based on prior experience. Dozens of articles about other LDS missions have been created in the past, and none have ever successfully made it past a WP:AfD, all because of origional research and notability concerns. This is one of the reasons why Mission (LDS Church) was created. If you want to have this article remain, much better references will be needed, but it seems unlikely that you will find what you'll need to pass muster. If you want the motto (with the cite) to remain somewhere here on Wikipedia, about the only other place to put it would be on the Merrill J. Bateman article, but the reset of the article is most likely destined for oblivion. -- 12.106.111.10 21:18, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

- No offense taken. I've never authored anything for Wikipedia before, so this is a good crash course in understanding what I need to have to get an article to be accepted and validated. I actually quite appreciate the comments and edits.
-
- I am, however, somewhat confused by precisely what criteria is necessary to meet but perhaps someone can help me to understand this better. Based on the reasons you have mentioned for why this article will likely be deleted, I can't see why something like the Latter Day Saint movement is acceptable. It only has two print references, one of which is decidedly biased. But this is probably a gripe I should save for a more appropriate venue. As for right now, I'm mainly wondering what makes the article I posted not acceptable while others are, when there is probably a good argument that this one is quite possibly more factual and less controversial and opinionated, albiet much smaller as far as actual text is concerned.

- So like I said, any suggestions for approriate Wikipedia authoring are always welcome. I will not be offended. My idea here is that I have done a significant amount of research myself into Christianity (in general) and Japan and thought it would be fun to start putting some of this up on the web. I was going to try and do a brief overview of all of the LDS Missions, and then move into a few articles on some Catholic churches I have info on (such as Xavier's chapel in Yamaguchi), but perhaps this is not the best approach? Perhaps I would do better to work on more broad and general type of summaries of research like "Mormonism in Japan", "Catholocism in Japan", "Jehovah's Witnesses in Japan", etc.? What do you think? - I think something along the lines of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Japan would be very useful, and a similar article (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in South Korea) has been successfully defended in at least one WP:AfD. Also note that the general topic of Christianity in Japan is covered in several articles found in Category:Christianity in Japan and more generally in Religion in Japan. -- 12.106.111.10 21:35, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
