Additional tips...

  • Please sign your messages on talk pages with four tildes (~~~~). This will automatically insert your "signature" (your username and a date stamp). The Image:Signature_icon.png button, on the tool bar above Wikipedia's text editing window, also does this.

Good luck, and have fun. {Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button Image:Signature_icon.png located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you!}

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I've noticed that you've been adding your signature to some of your article contributions, such as you did to Upper Sandusky Exempted Village School District, Wyandot County, Ohio. This is a simple mistake to make and is easy to correct. For future reference, the need to associate edits with users is taken care of by an article's edit history. Therefore, you should use your signature only when contributing to talk pages, the Village Pump, or other such discussion pages. For a better understanding of what distinguishes articles from these type of pages, please see What is an article?. Again, thanks for contributing, and enjoy your Wikipedia experience! Thank you. [edit] Article names

I appreciate that you're creating articles for these districts. Please keep in mind, though, that the location of the district is not usually included in the title (i.e. Danbury Local School District rather than Danbury Local School District, Ottawa County, Ohio). I've moved the articles you've created so far to the appropriate titles. Thanks. Tijuana Brass (talk) 07:18, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Unfortunately, they've been named incorrectly. The intention in separating them in the way they've been set up was good, but it goes against naming convention. In short, the general idea is to keep the article names as simple and brief as possible - one would not expect to have to type in the location of an article along with its name.
In cases where we have multiple names, we then can create a disambiguation page and rename the articles accordingly; for example, Anywhere School District (West County) and Anywhere School District (East County). I can help you with those if you'd like. Tijuana Brass (talk) 07:32, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
Tell you what - take a ten minute break from the districts while I redirect these to the right place (so we won't be accidentally duplicating efforts). I'll post back up here when I'm done, and you'll be good to go. Tijuana Brass (talk) 07:35, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
Better stretch out that break a little, as this'll take some time to repair the links. The editor who formatted this list did it against standard naming conventions, which caused a mess. I'll let you know when I'm finished with it. Tijuana Brass (talk) 07:56, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
Looks like it'll take a while to clean this up; I'll work on it over the next couple of days. You may want to hold off on adding new districts until then, just so I won't accidentally miss anything during the changes. Regarding your question on how to list the parochial and tech schools, really, you could go either way. I think your original article was fine, since there were enough schools to merit a fork. Tijuana Brass (talk) 08:26, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, I forgot to mention back here that I finished changing the links from the main page yesterday. Sometime tonight or tomorrow, I'll run through and take care of the redirects. From this point on, you shouldn't have any trouble creating new district articles. Thanks for your patience. Tijuana Brass (talk) 23:09, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Page blanking of Forest Hills School District redirect

Hi, I noticed that you blanked the Forest Hills School District redirect without explanation. I reverted the edit because the redirect helps disambiguate the name shared by several school districts. • Gene93k (talk) 14:57, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, articles should not be moved without good reason. They need to have a name that is both accurate and intuitive. We have some guidelines in place to help with this. Generally, a page should only be moved to a new title if the current name doesn't follow these guidelines. Also, if a page move is being discussed, consensus needs to be reached before anybody moves the page. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you.

Please note that you are making Disambig pages for articles that do not exist. m=Making links to nonexistant articles is not necessary.

[edit] Page moves and disambiguation pages

Steel, I appreciate your interest in helping fill out these district pages, but you keep moving them to incorrect titles. Doing this can create some extensive problems that administrators have to correct later. For the time being, please do not move any more pages around or try to redirect links.

Also, while disambiguation pages are helpful, the practice is to create them after there are articles to redirect to. Just adding several red links isn't very helpful. In some cases, you've actually misspelled or otherwise created improper links (i.e. "St. Marys" instead of "St. Mary's").

I really do appreciate that you're helping out here, but in some cases, you've accidentally created more work for us to do. For now, it'd be great if you went back to creating pages for the districts themselves which are red linked. Thanks. Tijuana Brass (talk) 01:10, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

The Ohio Portal

The maintainers of the Ohio Portal are looking to get it to featured status. They would like to ask all project members to help improve it any way they can. What needs to be done most is the supplying of selected articles and images.

Selected Article: Indian Head Rock

There is a eight ton rock in Ohio that was removed from the Ohio River. This rock is known as the Indian Head Rock Dating back to the early 1800’s, this rock was seen sticking out of the Ohio River and used as a navigational mark for barges along the river. The names of citizens from the town of Portsmouth, Ohio are carved into the rock from the late nineteenth a early twentieth centuries. Some of the names were of well known families from Ohio. They would swim out to the rock, have their picture taken with it or simply carve their names into it.
With the advent of the Locks and Dams along the Ohio River, the rock eventually was submerged, but the legend lived on. A gentleman from Ironton, Ohio located the rock after searching a very long time for it, and he and a crew of scuba divers recovered the rock and took it to the shore to be donated to Ohio for historical value.
After hearing the news about the rock being removed, Kentucky introduced legislation against the removal of the rock. They also want the diver who found it to be prosecuted for removing the rock. Kentucky owns the greatest part of the land the river runs on. Even the Army Corp. of Engineers got involved as to how to move the rock without damaging it. Kentucky wants to have it returned to the river.
