From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hello, this is Stevey7788 (talk · contribs)! But you can just call me "Steve". I'd like to expand and improve Wikipedia, and I have a variety of interests here.
Wikipedia is not just one of the best reference tools ever created — it's a great place where everybody can get together, form a community, and write an online encyclopedia together. Wikipedia is a great place on the Internet, but it's not 100% perfect. Go RC!.
Some of my current tasks on Wikipedia include:
- The usual task of reading, writing, and rewriting articles. I do mainly the cleanup, grammar fixes, section moving, racist tone check/cleanup, and other work.
- RC patroling, sometimes new page patroling
- Creating redirects and disambiguation pages. Currently, I mainly split or merge pages.
- Patroling the Sandbox -- raking out content, putting headers back, fishing out offensive content, checking for vandalism
- Dealing with vandals and warning them
- Welcoming new users and being part of the Kindness Campaign
I am one of the most active users on Wikipedia. As of August 2005, my total edits amounted to approximately 4500 edits. [1]
Anyways, please feel free to edit or improve my page any way you'd like. I would really be pleased if someone helped re-organize my page for me. :)
I'm not spending a lot of time of Wikipedia recently due to being busy in real life, but I do log in once in a while.

[edit] What I've done on Wikipedia
A lot to do, and more to do. All voluntary and often when I'm bored.
[edit] Contributions list
Used to be mainly minor edits and tedious work. Due to the images I have uploaded recently, you may see my contributions list clogged up with uploaded images.
Before April 2005, redirects were marked as minor edits.

- Stevey7788's contributions to Wikipedia - BIG LIST
- Article contributions
- Sandbox raking
- All the images I have uploaded
[edit] A few examples of the work I've done on Wikipedia
Note: Actually I do a lot of cleanup, copyediting, and disambiguation work now, and I rarely do redirects now. Please don't be fooled by the long list of redirecting I did.
easier than votes for deletion!
Other stuff I had done:
- Massive stub-sorting
- Patroling the Sandbox
- Welcoming new users
- Warning vandals
- The map project

[edit] Stevey7788's map project
The big map project some of you noticed I have launched on Wikipedia:
[edit] Awards
I, FP, in my official capacity as nobody-in-particular, hereby bestow upon you, Stevey7788, the mighty and presigious Atlas Award for your dedicated and ongoing work to ensure that one of Wikipedia's most visible pages — the Sandbox — is sanitary, inoffensive, tidy and welcoming to new Wikipedians.
"The Atlas Award For Raking the Sandbox Clean may be awarded to those who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in fishing disgusting and unwanted items from the Wikipedia sandbox. The Atlas award is named after Charles Atlas and is taken from his 'they kicked sand in my face' advertisement, and is in no way merely a masculine image. It is a symbol of self-empowerment. Charles Atlas was once a self-styled 98-pound weakling, and through his own diligence and effort, became a very succesful businessman and body builder. And his business empire began with the ad that this image is from."
Well done. -- FP <talk><edits> 06:44, May 12, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] My beginnings on Wikipedia
I had been reading content off Wikipedia since several years ago. Then I decided to get registered. Stevey7788 was a name that I randomly picked, and then I started editing.
Even though I wasn't ever welcomed, I was welcoming others later!
I didn't know why I chose Stevey and 7788 (random number). I'm Steven/Steve/"Dude", and nobody ever calls me Stevey in real life. But who cares, I'm already Stevey on Wiki.
As a newbie on Wiki, I was amused when somebody wrote a short autobiography on my user page: All about Steve the Vandal

I am also a very active Wiktionarian. Lexical companions to online encyclopedias can really be quite fun.
[edit] Wiki wiki wiki opinions
Wikipedia ain't no experimental lab. Read, write, and edit, but trolling or testing anarchies are kinda off-topic.
[edit] Use edit summaries
User 1: This article history is confusing.
User 2: And what the heck are all those 523 edits about?
User 1: Well, we can't tell with all those blank summaries.
User 2: Dang! What really happened with those edits?
User 1: I dunno.
So.........
Be bold and write your summaries!
[edit] Anon IP discrimination
Well, an anon IP could be anybody. Some may actually be admins. I personally don't think that anon's should be treated very differently from logged-in users.
[edit] Policies
Even if you aren't part of the Wikipedia community and don't participate in voting, discussion, etc., you should probably read some pages on Wikipedia policy. And Wikipedia policies aren't just useless bits and bytes - they are actual rules that should be put into practice. Knowing every single Wikipedia policy by heart and acting inappropriately is not useful at all. Know the policies and use them. If you put a policy into practice, you can see why these things aren't just rules — they help us do stuff right.
[edit] 3RR
A very simple rule. As simple as 1-2-3 and A-B-C.
Don't revert any single page more than three times within a period of 24 hours. |
[edit] Verifiability
Verify, verify, cite, and cite!!!
[edit] Toolbox
This is a toolbox containing various resources and links. Please improve and expand it for me if you'd like to — this is not a "no-edit" zone.
