Steven Barnett - Bagpiper Perth.
A young professional bagpiper in Perth, WA.

I started learning the bagpipes at age 9, tutored by my mother, Maureen Barnett, who is currently the Pipe Major of the Coastal Scottish Pipe Band.

When I was 11, I travelled to Adelaide for the National Pipe Band competitions with The Armadale City Pipe Band. I competed with the Band in 2001, in the state mini-band competitions.

In 2002, I joined the Coastal Scottish Pipe Band, where I continue to progress both as a Band Piper and a Soloist.

I began to compete in Solo competitions at the 'Learner' level in 2004. In 2005, I competed at the Rockingham State Solo Competition in the elementary level and winning the sub-intermediate grade. On that day also winning the "Michelle Hendrie Memorial Award" for commitment, respect for traditional dress, care of musical instrument and playing with "feeling and expression". I continue to compete at the elementary and sub-intermediate grades, having won both grades at the 2006 State Solo Competition.

In more recent times, I travelled and competed with the Coastal Scottish Pipe Band to Dunedin, New Zealand, for the NZ National Championship, winning Grade 4 and in turn being promoted to Grade 3.

As a Piper I have performed consistently over the past 5 years for many events, including countless weddings, celebrations and funerals and other special events such as gatherings, school graduations and concerts. I enjoy my work as a piper and hope to continue to learn and develop, always willing to try new things and adapt to what people want from their event.

I am available for all types of events including Weddings, Celebrations, Special Events or Ceremonies and Funerals.
