Stephen F. Kelly, writer and broadcaster. Born Birkenhead, 1946. Author of Mr Shankly's Photograph (2002), Dalglish (1992), Shankly: It's Much More Than That (1996), The Kop (1993), Fergie (1997), Red Voices( 1995). In all Kelly has written 25 books, two of which have been nominated for the William Hill Sports Prize. His biography of Bill Shankly was a top ten seller and remained in the top twenty sales charts for seven weeks.
Journalist of long standing, former producer Granada Television (credits include World in Action, What The Papers Say, Union World, Union Power). Regular broadcaster BBC Radio Five and Radio Four.

Kelly's oral history studies on football (The Kop and Red Voices) were the first such attempts at defining the importance of fandom through oral testimony. This area of study has now been taken up by a number of academics and oral historians. Kelly is now recognised as a leading oral historian.
