Steve Abbott grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois and Williamsville, New York (Buffalo). His father was a manager for Firestone for thirty years and mother ran a day care from their home. He has one younger brother and sister.

After graduating from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio Abbott headed to Los Angeles and worked as a featured extra on Diagnosis Murder for its pilot season in where he received his training of how a set functions. He worked in film and television in co-star and guest star roles for such shows as High Incident, Murder One, and LA Heat just to name a few.

After spending five years in LA Abbott moved to Chicago to join the Second City comedy troupe. While studying and performing improvisation at Second City he landed the lead role in the award-winning comedy Oh Well, played the pitcher for the Cubs in a national commercial for McDonalds, as well as several other commercials (over thirty to date)and films shot in town.
