StealthEXE: Sorry to disagree with you but where did you get this about Louis XVI "making an excuse that the carpenters needed to prepare the hall for a royal speech in two days..."
The members of the Tiers Etat could not enter the Salle des Menus Plaisirs unless the other two orders (Nobility & Clergy) were there also. Anticipating that the Tiers Etat would want to meet there anyway, Louis XVI ordered the troop to guard the entrance. Being king, Louis XVI did not need any "excuse" to keep the door shut on the Tiers Etat.
This being said, I would love to see the source for your commentary.
