Talk:Steve Goodall
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Steve Goodall and I lived in the same street throughout the 1960's and early 1970's. I have seen his Commonwealth Games Bronze Medal and the information I have provided is first hand. Razorwiki15 18:13, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
- That may be, but that doesn't mean that you can include information based on your own recollection. The standard for inclusion in Wikipedia is not truth but verifiability. Unless you can find reliable sources to back up any facts included in this article then that is what Wikipedia classes as original research and it really shouldn't be included in the article. First hand information is meaningless on Wikipedia.
- That said, most of the article looks fine, and this is just a general note. -- Mattinbgn\talk 19:13, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
Mattinbgn, thank you for your guidance on Wikipedia. My first participation has been somewhat frustrating. I saw an "injustice" in leaving a Bundaberg-boy and an Olympian, with a Commonwealth Games Bronze Medal off a list of People from Bundaberg, but my "own recollection" of history doesn't count!! Just wonder if Steve Goodall himself would have the same problem or whether a combination of me, Steve and Ivan "Spike" Lloyd-Jones would need to combine to verify the accuracy of my comments/history? I am not trying to be funny, but I could probably get the other two to confirm my record, but I am not sure that would be enough. Can you suggest? Did I do his medal and team membership referencing correctly? I am wondering how my correction of some other inaccurancies made by others on other wiki sites will now stand. eg , on the "Bundaberg" page, (where I added Steve) the person who recorded that "Port of (New)Bundaberg" (New Bundaberg is still a gazetted town, but only lines on a map) exported "sugar cane" when it had not exported a stick... only "raw cane sugar". Never "sugar cane". . . and on "Paul Clitheroe" - the story of his start with Ipac is in his book, "Money". Seems I better do some research... Anyway, I hope to do better in future. And look forward to your help in making my history be acceptable. Razorwiki15 04:12, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
