The negros commnet seems a bit POV too me.. there were white steerage passengers too mind you, especially Irish immigrnats. --Saint-Paddy 03:20, 31 October 2005 (UTC)

You've both lost me. We didn't get too many negroes immigrating here (Australia), but thousands came steerage. Immigration has as little to do with it as race: steerage was a common class of cheap ticket in former times. However, I won't edit the article because it is not a subject I know about more than I've just noted. (Alpheus 10:55, 8 November 2005 (UTC))
