Stevens Point Brewery is a regional American brewery located in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. It was founded in 1857 by Frank Wahle and George Ruder. The company claims that its Point Special beer was one of the first lager beers to be produced in America.
Although its beer was sold exclusively in Wisconsin for the first 133 years of operation, the company has recently begun selling its brands in neighboring states. In 1990, Point beers went on sale in Minnesota. Distribution was expanded again in 1991 to include Illinois, and again in 2004 to include Indiana and Michigan.
In 2003, the Stevens Point Brewing Company bought the Augsburger brand from Stroh Brewery Company, and in 2005 purchased Minnesota-based James Page Brewing Company and took over production of those companies' beers.
