[edit] Early years

Steven Smith first got into music after hearing the Starland Vocal Band’s “Afternoon Delight” when he was 5 years old. he was also in a band as a drummer and in many interviews with drummers he comments on how bad he is but how he likes to play.

[edit] VH1

Steven's career as a VJ began when he was hired as “the goofy one” for VH1. He hosted several shows, including Top 20 Countdown and Rock Across America interviewing musicians such as Dave Matthews, John Mayer, Norah Jones, and Tommy Lee, among others.

[edit] Fuse

Steven liked the idea of an all-music channel, so he departed from Los Angeles and VH1 and moved to New York to begin a two-year-long stint hosting Daily Download, where he was kissed by Gwen Stefani (he was also kissed by Bert McCracken of The Used on SURS), whacked in the nuts by Marilyn Manson, chatted downloading with Metallica, commiserated with The Cure and talked rock with Green Day, The Used and Taking Back Sunday. He's also good friends with the guys of My Chemical Romance and has interviewed the band several times. Gerard Way, the lead singer, gave Steven a makeup lesson once from the band's tour bus. He was also the first Tv interview of Fat Mike from NOFX.

Although Steven used his pop culture minutiae to co-create Fuse Action News- Fuse’s answer to The Daily Show- it was his knowledge of the rock genre that earned him Steven’s Untitled Rock Show, his own show on Fuse, in which he plays music videos and talks with and about bands.

[edit] Steven’s Untitled Rock Show

Currently Steven is the host of "Steven’s Untitled Rock Show," a nightly program that airs on Fuse Network. SURS airs music videos and interviews featuring indie, emo, and punk bands. Over the years, SURS has been invited to cover many tours. Some of these tours include Bamboozle, The Warped Tour, Taste Of Chaos, and various others. Recently, SURS has been a part of the Warped Tour exhibit in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame and also singing with bands in the studios
