Steven Knapp

Steven Knapp is the current President of The George Washington University, having assumed the position at midnight on August 1, 2007. He is the 16th president of the university, succeeding Stephen Joel Trachtenberg. Previously, he was a professor provost at Johns Hopkins University since 1996 and dean of the School of Arts and Sciences from 1994 to 1996.[1]

Knapp is a 1973 graduate of Yale University. He did his graduate work at Cornell University, earning his Master's degree in 1977 and his doctorate in 1981 He served for 16 years on the faculty of University of California, Berkeley as a a specialist in 18th and 19th century English literature and in literary theory, before coming to Johns Hopkins in 1994.[2]
