Steven Jon Atkinson

Steven Jon Atkinson (b. 1984) is an English Theatre Director, Writer and Producer. He went to the University of Reading and read Theatre and Film. He is Artistic Director of the HighTide Festival, producing the best emerging playwrights, directors, devised theatre, actors, and filmmakers.


After graduating, he worked in development at the Hampstead Theatre then Battersea Arts Centre. Aged 22, he was appointed by British playwright John Godber as the first Literary Manager of Hull Truck Theatre. In summer 2007, he produced the first PlayWrite Festival at Hull Truck, and directed the world-premiere of The Freedom Trilogy.


During university he directed David Mamet's Sexual Perversity In Chicago at the Edinburgh Fringe, and he directed twice for the National Student Drama Festival.His first play The Bunker Project was produced by Southstreet Theatre, Reading. His short plays Perry Howard and Gettin' Me Ahead were produced at the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough and the Hampstead Theatre, London. He was a member of the Royal Court Theatre's young writers' course.
