Steve Sidwell (American football)

Steve Sidwell is a former American football coach. He coached in the National Football League for 22 years and was a college football coach for 16 years.

Sidwell worked as the New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator from 1986 to 1994. In this 9 year span, the Saints led the league twice in fewest points allowed (1991, '92), in rushing defense ('89) and in passing defense ('92, '93). After he was fired in December of 1994, he signed on with the Green Bay Packers as the linebackers coach. He has also held jobs as defensive coordinator of the Houston Oilers, Indianapolis Colts, New England Patriots, and most recently, the Seattle Seahawks.

Sidwell has coached the Franklin Panthers for two years as defensive coordinator, using the same defense strategy of the New Orleans Saints of the early 1990s.
