Steve Lombardozzi

Stephen Paul Lombardozzi (born April 26, 1960 in Malden, Massachusetts), is a former Major League Baseball second baseman who played for the Minnesota Twins and Houston Astros from 1985 to 1990. Lombardozzi, perhaps best known for his defense, provided key hits in the 1987 postseason when the Twins won the World Series. It should also be noted he attended the University of Florida.

Lombardozzi was the starting second baseman for the Twins when they won the 1987 World Series versus the St. Louis Cardinals. He led all hitters in that World Series with a .412 batting average. He also held the record for the longest last name of any player to hit a postseason home run, until it was broken by Doug Mientkiewicz of the Minnesota Twins in 2002.

Lombardozzi's son, Steve Lombardozzi Jr., plays for Atholton High School and was named a preseason third-team Rawlings' All-American. In 2008, he will play at St. Petersburg College, if he isn't selected in the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft.
