Steve Liebmann

Steve Liebmann (born 1944) Following a career with the Nine Network, he joined Foxtel as a presenter on its factual channels including Crime and Investigation Network also working on Sydney radio station 2UE as a talk-back host and as weekend anchor of Ten News. Liebmann has interviewed presidents, prime ministers, royalty, the world's leading entertainers and sporting stars[1]

Liebmann launched his journalism career in Cooma, later moving to Canberra and then on to Sydney where he joined the 2UE newsroom. Eventually, he became 2UE's Director of News and Public Affairs and presented an afternoon news and public affairs program on the station until he left to join 2SM in 1976. In the same year he became the host of the Seven Network's 11AM program. In 1982 he joined the Nine Network to co-host the national Today Show and stayed with that program until 1987 when he joined the Ten Network to anchor TEN-10 Sydney's Eyewitness News, alongside Geraldine Doogue.

He rejoined the Today program in 1990 and remained at the Nine Network presenting the program across Australia and around New Zealand five days a week until January 2005. During the two decades he co-hosted Today, Liebmann interviewed presidents, prime ministers, royalty and the world's leading entertainers and sportsmen and women. He cited heart problems and health as the reason for his retirement from the show.

Liebmann has travelled extensively to present the Today program from the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Canada, Japan, East Timor and from all Australian states and territories. He is the recipient of several journalistic awards.

Following his retirement from the Today show, Liebmann expressed disappointment in the Herald Sun on the program's content and the decision to copy its competition on the Seven network. He also anchored Network Ten's weekend evening news during 2006.
