[edit] Personal
Jocz is of Polish descent. He was born in Ajax, Ontario, to Marg and Phil Jocz, and has an older sister named Jenn. Around 1993, he met future Sum 41 frontman, Deryck Whibley. They became the first two members of the band, which formed out of two rival bands at their local high school. Jocz is the youngest in the band, and a vegan.
[edit] School and youth
Jocz finished high school along with Cone and Deryck. All band members attended school in Ajax, Ontario. In high school, Steve was on the dive team and portrayed his skills in the music video for "In Too Deep".
While still a youth (around 18-19), he and the other members of the band would play many pranks (such as robbing a pizza store with water guns). He continues to have the same prankster aspect to him, and in an MTV interview he described recent pranks, such as filling condoms with rotten milk and throwing them at near by sun-bathers. He, along with Deryck, is the most visible in the "Road to Ruin" episodes involving pranks.
[edit] Sum 41
With Sum 41, he is known for his outspoken personality and toilet humor in interviews. He is often considered the frontman of the band because of his outgoing personality and the fact he often takes over interviews.
He is also a controversial person; as one of the leaders of Punk Voter and one of the best-known artists against George W. Bush, he often includes political messages in his interviews.
[edit] Drums
Steve uses Vic Firth sticks, Zildjian cymbals and Remo drum heads. He plays Drum Workshop Drums and Hardware.
He lists Dave Grohl and Keith Moon as his biggest drumming influences.
[edit] Other Appearances/Hobbies
Aside from drums, Stevo plays the piano. He sings lead vocals for the Sum 41 Alter-ego band Pain For Pleasure. He is also featured on drums in his bandmate Cone McCaslin's side project, The Operation M.D., where he is referred to as"Dr. Dinero.")
Jocz recorded drums for some songs on Avril Lavigne's latest album, The Best Damn Thing.
More recently, he started a music video directing career. He directed a music video for the band The Midway State, called "Change For You" and for The Operation M.D., their single "Sayonara".
He has made several animated videos such as "The Baby", and has acted as the main character in many Sum 41 short films such as "1-800-JUSTICE", "Public Service Announcements", "The Stache" and "Basketball Butcher". He also was featured in the movie, "Dirty Love", as himself for about seven minutes, along with the rest of Sum 41.
