[edit] Biography

Hernandez was the first of two boys, born to Spanish parents, Antonio Hernandez and Emelia Hernandez. Both of his parents were musicians. Having started singing at the age of three, Hernandez was a polished soprano by age ten. After finishing high school, Hernandez studied voice at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music at Griffith University in Australia. He spent five years there developing his voice, though he spent a total of 10 years developing his distinctive vocal abilities.

In addition to solo work, Hernandez has worked as a session vocalist, singing backing vocals for Mariah Carey, Debelah Morgan, Keith Urban, Vanessa Amorosi, and other artists. He has also worked in television and radio.

Hernandez currently teaches voice at Sheldon College and is promoting his most recent album, Simply Steve. His previous album, Showstopper, was certified double Platinum in the US and 5x Platinum in the Philippines. His total worldwide record sales are now 4 million since his first album.

[edit] World record

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Hernandez holds the world record for highest vocal note produced by a male. That pitch is designated C#8 in note-octave notation; it is one semitone above the highest note on a standard grand piano or 4435 Hz. Before achieving this record, Hernandez held the previous Guinness World Record for singing a D7 in 2003. He broke his own record in June 2005.

Although he is most noted for this record, it is said that Hernandez's voice has greater range than the grand staff in both directions. He is said to have the ability to pitch a A#1, one and a half tones below Deep C. His tessitura, however, lies in the tenor range.
