Steve Beard

Steve Beard (born in 1961) is an English science fiction/fantasy author. He was born in the 'M4 corridor' in 1961, and moved to Australia at the age of 12, where he resided in the city of Brisbane. He returned to England at the age of 19.

After attending Cambridge University, he worked as a style journalist for i-D magazine, The Face and Arena magazines. In 1998, he moved to Hove, where he met another experimental British writer, Tyler Sheedy. In 1999, he published the novel Digital Leatherette. The book was published by Codex, the book house that also published and distributed many of Jeff Noons books'. The book was described as being 'fresh evidence that the street finds its own uses for literature' by William Gibson.

In 1999, he released the book Perfumed Head, a pastiche of a conventional detective novel. It was published and distributed by Book Works.

In 2002, he contributed with Jeff Noon on an online baroque fantasy novel, titled Mappalujo. This project is accessible at mappalujo.com.

His latest book is Meat Puppet Cabaret released on 13 Jun 2006. It was published by Raw Dog Screaming Press

Collections of his essays and journalism are available: Logic Bomb (published by Serpent's Tail in 1999) and Aftershocks (published by Wallflower in 2002).
