Steve Asheim(born January 1970) is the drummer and primary songwriter for the death metal band Deicide. Steve is also known to collect guns, which can be seen in Deicide's DVD When London Burns.

"I've been living metal my whole life practically. I got my 1st album "kiss-dressed to kill" when I was like 7 years old. I got my 1st drum kit when I was 12 and the 1st song I played was iron maiden's "the prisoner" horns up to Clive burr! I got my 1st double bass kit when i was 16 and immediately started playing Lombardo, Hoglan and Ulrich. And a year or 2 later when my own band was formed and we started playing around Tampa and meeting all the other local bands... death, morbid angel, obituary, it was like "fuckin'a, let's do this"! So to me, metal is all I know how to be, not just something to listen to. Without metal, i might as well call it a day!"[1]

On 25 January 2007, when making a trip to a bank in Innsbruck, Austria to make a deposit from Deicide merchandise sales, he was arrested on suspicion of connection with a recent bank robbery. Staff were perplexed by his appearance and attire, as well as the fact he was handling money marked in red dye. Detained by police in the local station, he explained the banknotes were legitimate proceeds from touring, and that he had a leaky pen in his pocket which was responsible for the money's discoloration. He was released without further charge. [1] Steve Asheim is endorsed by Ddrum.

As of 20 November 2007, Blabbermouth.com reported that Steve Asheim has joined the St. Petersburg, Florida-based death/black metal band COUNCIL OF THE FALLEN. [2]

According to democracynow!, he stated that he is happy that deicide's music is being used to torture suspected enemy combatants saying, “It’s cool. If we’re up to military standards of audio abuse, it makes me feel like Deicide’s doing our part for the troops.” http://www.democracynow.org/2008/3/5/headlines

[edit] Influences

"What pushed me towards extreme drum playing was all the lame ass pussy drum playing that was going on in the 80's. All the so-called metal really made me pissed that it was even being called metal. But in the 80's was also the birth of true metal, Metallica, Slayer, Dark Angel, Destruction, Sodom. I wanted to capture all the heaviest moments from those bands and just play like that."[2]

[edit] Musical Tastes

"I listen to classical piano. Some of that stuff rips it up and is actually reminiscent of metal, for me anyway. I think it gives a broader range of what’s possible in constructing songs and music."[3]
