The Sterling Volunteer Fire Department operates out of three fire stations: Sterling Park, Sugarland, and Cascades. From these stations, firefighters respond with three fire engines, three ladder trucks, a hazardous materials response unit and a command unit. All of these vehicles are funded with donations from the community.

The company spends considerable hours training to maintain certifications in fire fighting, emergency medical services, and technical rescue. The firefighters are also constantly upgrading their skills and equipment to keep up with the latest technology and practices in the fire service.

All of this training and equipment is brought to bear on almost 4000 calls for help each year and this number is rising steadily. Calls range from resetting fire alarms to car accidents to large-scale fires.

The department often works closely with their sister organization, the Sterling Volunteer Rescue Squad.
