Sterling is a town in Comanche County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 762 at the 2000 census.

Sterling is located at 34°44′58″N, 98°10′10″W (34.749450, -98.169470)[3].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.8 square miles (2.1 km²), all of it land.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 762 people, 316 households, and 223 families residing in the town. The population density was 955.8 people per square mile (367.8/km²). There were 348 housing units at an average density of 436.5/sq mi (168.0/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 91.08% White, 6.43% Native American, 0.92% from other races, and 1.57% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.23% of the population.

There were 316 households out of which 34.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.8% were married couples living together, 14.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.4% were non-families. 26.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 2.91.

In the town the population was spread out with 27.6% under the age of 18, 9.4% from 18 to 24, 28.0% from 25 to 44, 20.3% from 45 to 64, and 14.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 87.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.4 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $26,583, and the median income for a family was $29,563. Males had a median income of $27,841 versus $24,167 for females. The per capita income for the town was $12,707. About 17.7% of families and 20.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 32.3% of those under age 18 and 13.5% of those age 65 or over.
