Stereo Total is a Berlin-based French-German duo. Members are Françoise Cactus (born Françoise Van Hove) and Brezel ('pretzel') Göring (aka Friedrich von Finsterwalde, born Friedrich Ziegler). Former members include Angie Reed, San Reimo, Iznogood (Iznogoud is the character of a French comic book series by Jean Tabary and René Goscinny) and Lesley Campbell. Their music can be described as a humorous mix of Synth-Pop, New Wave, Electronica, Punk, and pop music. They also tend to embody a retro-hip European 60's mod style and references to that period can found in their music as well. Some songs strongly evoke a mod/psych/garage-rock vibe both in production aesthetic and lyrical content. Sixties French pop in the vein of Francoise Hardy can be heard in the mix also. Some of their tracks are playful, low-fi versions of pop/rock/soul songs that employ the use of analog recording equipment and reverberation. In the same vein, they made a pop version of Salt-N-Pepa's electro rap hit "Push It". Stereo Total are a truly multilingual band, singing usually in German, French, and English; as well as other languages such as Japanese, Spanish, or Turkish. The band has covered songs by Sylvie Vartan, Françoise Hardy, Brigitte Bardot, Serge Gainsbourg, Pizzicato Five, Johnny Hallyday, Nico, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Hot Chocolate and KC and the Sunshine Band.

A song by Stereo Total "I love you, Ono", from their album My Melody, was used by Sony in a commercial for the Handycam in Europe in June 2005, and was also featured in Robot Food's snowboarding hit "Afterbang". This was actually a lesser-known cover of a track originally entitled, "I Love You, Oh No!" from the 1980 album, "Welcome Plastics" by obscure Japanese New-Wavers, The Plastics. The Stereo Total version's title is obviously a play on the original title and Yoko Ono, and is most likely a homage to the original's Japanese origin. Another one of their songs, "L'Amour a trois", the French version of the song "Liebe zu Dritt" was used in a commercial for 3G-phones in Sweden in the fall of 2005 by the company 3,as well as by the Spanish TV Channel "Cuatro" in an ad for the company. Their song "Cannibale" was included in the console game Dance Dance Revolution ULTRAMIX 4, released in November of 2006.
