Steptoe & Johnson LLP has a long and rich tradition of public service. In 2007, the firm recorded over 32,000 pro bono hours.

A significant project is the Action for Children of Trafficking (ACT), which provides direct assistance to victims of international child trafficking and addresses the systemic obstacles that confront them. Steptoe attorneys have also been actively involved in pro bono matters involving civil liberties and civil rights, community economic development, criminal cases, disability, education, the elderly, employment, family law, housing and homelessness, human rights, not-for-profit corporations, and tax.

Steptoe received the 2007 Pro Bono Service Award from the World Organization for Human Rights, USA. ^[5]
