Stephen Siller

Stephen Siller (born 1966) was an NYFD firefighter from Squad 1, Park Slope Brooklyn. On 9/11, he was off-duty, and on his way to golf with his 3 older brothers. Picking up the news on his scanner, he turned his truck around and drove toward the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel. When he realized that no vehicles were being permitted to enter the tunnel, he strapped his 60 pounds of gear to his back and ran along the catwalk toward the World Trade Center, where he ultimately perished.

Each year the Tunnel To Towers Run, a race retracing his route, honors his memory.
