Stephen Pimentel

Stephen Pimentel (born 1964) is a Catholic author known for his advancement of the covenantal approach in biblical theology, as well as his writings on philosophy. He has written two books on the Acts of the Apostles and contributed to the Catholic for a Reason anthology series. He has been active in a number of Catholic apostolates and written for Lay Witness magazine.

Pimentel received a Master of Arts in theology from Christendom College in 2002. He has been active in Catholic apostolates since 1990, chiefly as a speaker for Catholic groups and conferences on topics such as the teachings of the apostles, the Church in the New Testament, and starting Scripture study programs in parishes. From 2003 to 2005, Pimentel was chairman of the St. Jerome Chapter of Catholics United for the Faith, for which he developed a program for Scripture study circles. He has also written on philosophy and theology, for both academic and popular publications.

Pimentel is interested in philosophy in the Thomistic tradition and its relation to modern science. He has presented papers on metaphysics and philosophy of mind at the conferences of the American Catholic Philosophical Association. He received a major award from the John Templeton Foundation for the essay "The Natural Order and the Human Mind" in November 2004.

Pimentel has written two commentaries on Scripture, Witnesses of the Messiah and Envoy of the Messiah, which together cover the Acts of the Apostles. These volumes are part of the Kingdom Series of Scripture studies produced by Emmaus Road Publishing. A distinctive feature of these works is their strong emphasis on covenantal theology, which employs typology to interpret the correspondences between biblical covenants. Pimentel has also contributed chapters on the Church as the Bride of Christ and the Eucharist in the apostolic Church to the Catholic for a Reason apologetics series, which approaches various aspects of Catholic teaching from the perspective of biblical theology.
