[edit] Career

Shortly after the first Gulf War, Mansfield worked with the Kurdish government of Iraq in rebuilding Kurdistan in northern Iraq. Mansfield lectured in Kurdish law schools, helped write the Kurdish Constitution, and addressed the nation in an NPR-style television broadcast on democracy.

When Protestant/Catholic religious strife became an impediment to democracy in northern Iraq, Mansfield made an embassy to the Vatican on two occasions to lobby the Holy See for a change in its Middle East policy. His efforts were successful and a new Protestant/Catholic harmony now prevails in Iraq and other Middle East countries.

Mansfield has helped the Kurds reclaim their heritage and fashion a new cultural identity rooted less in Islam and more in their history as the ancient Medes. For this he has been widely honored throughout Iraq and Europe.[3]

Mansfield has given testimony before the United States Congress about Saddam Hussein's atrocities and was part of an effort to bring genocide charges against Saddam in the United Nations.[4]

In addition to his writing, Mansfield is a much sought after statesman on leadership.[5]
