Stephen Malkmus is the first record by the group Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks. It was released by Matador Records on February 13, 2001. [edit] Miscellanea

  • The album's working title was Swedish Reggae.
  • "Jo Jo's Jacket" features a monologue by actor Yul Brynner during the intro. The song is reportedly an attack on the musician Moby, although Malkmus has said that this is not the case.
  • In the Slow Century DVD, Malkmus is seen playing a rough version of "Discretion Grove" to an unenthusiastic Pavement. "Discretion Grove" was the album's first single.
  • Neil Gust, formerly of Heatmiser, was responsible for the album's layout.
