[edit] Hibernian
Dobbie started his career at Rangers, but failed to break into the Rangers first team and was transferred to Hibernian. Dobbie scored the equalising goal in Hibernian's CIS Insurance Cup semi-final against his former club Rangers in the 2003-04 season. The match finished 1-1 after extra time. Therefore the tie went to penalties and Hibernian won 4-3[1].
Despite this important goal, Dobbie failed to win a regular place in the Hibernian first team as young stars Garry O'Connor and Derek Riordan were preferred. In the final, Hibs were beaten 2-0 by Livingston and Dobbie was left out of the starting line-up for the game.
[edit] St Johnstone
A lack of opportunities at Hibs under the management of Tony Mowbray meant that Dobbie signed for Scottish First Division side St. Johnstone in January 2005, initially on loan. The transfer was made permanent in the summer of 2005, but he struggled to hold a regular place in the team. He was loaned out to Dumbarton, where he found some form.
[edit] Queen of the South
Dobbie's form at Dumbarton was noticed by Queen of the South, who signed Dobbie from St. Johnstone on January 6, 2007. Dobbie's first goals for Queen of the South came during a 3-3 draw against Dundee in the Scottish Cup fourth-round replay on January 16, 2007. Queen of the South went on to win the tie on penalties.
Dobbie's opening goal in a 2-0 win in the Scottish Cup quarter-final against Dundee on 8 March 2008 helped to take Queens to their first Scottish Cup semi final since 1950. Queens progressed to their first ever Scottish Cup Final by beating Aberdeen 4-3 in the semi-final. Dobbie started the semi-final, but had to be substituted approaching half time due to injury. Despite a battling second half display Queens went down 3 - 2 to Rangers.
