1998 - Offaly VS Clare.
In the 3rd game of the Offaly vs Clare saga played in Semple Stadium in Thurles, Byrne had an outstanding game. In the dying minutes of the Semi Final , the ginger haired goalkeeper brought off three top class saves to deny Clare certain goals which would have ensured at least a draw for the Claremen.
He plays his club hurling with Kilcormac / Killoughey GAA club, a club in south Offaly which can be found as you travel along the main road between Birr and Tullamore.
