[edit] Writing Career
After writing and editing for publications in the US, Ramsaroop became a regular columnist for Kaieteur News. Her column, entitled "Stella Says" is published three times a week (Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday). Her initial columns for Kaieteur News were spirited debates with one of Guyana's most respected columnists, Freddie Kissoon.
[edit] Writing Style
Ramsaroop's writing style ranges from intellectual to witty. She often refers to Guyanese political figures and personalities with irreverent names such as "Smart and Sharp Robert Persaud, MBA" when referring to the former Information Liaison to the President and current Minister of Agriculture, Robert Persaud. Many of these names have become a part of Guyanese speak and appear regularly in letters to the Editor or are utilized by fellow columnists.
[edit] Writing Focus
Ramsaroop writes political and social columns with an emphasis on issues facing Guyanese women. In her July 20, 2006 column entitled "Stella Says…How Does Guyana Measure Up in Gender Equality?", Ramsaroop writes "According to a press release on Guyana's progress from August 2005 by the UN's Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women, the nation still struggles with even the most basic of women's rights – protection against violence. The report said Bibi Shadick, Minister of Labour, Human Services and Social Security explained that the lack of financial resources was the most restricting factor to the protection of women."
Ramsaroop also tackles political issues such as the call for the privatization of the Government controlled media which includes the Guyana Chronicle and a monopoly on radio stations in Guyana. Since many Guyanese live in rural areas, the only news and information many receive comes from State controlled media.
