Stefano Cordella

Stefano Cordella, Italian, is currently working as Head of Mission for Iraq at Intersos, the largest international Non-Governmental Organization operating in Southern Iraq.
Before this assignment, Mr. Cordella served three years - until the beginning of 2007 - as Country Coordinator at the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) Programme: he started in Syria in 2004 as one of the youngest Coordinators worldwide and was then assigned to Trinidad and Tobago – the largest programme in Latin America and the Caribbean - to manage and promote UNV activities.
Mr. Cordella started working with the UNV Programme in 2002, when he was assigned to UNDP Madagascar as Economist within the Policy and Strategy Unit. Prior to joining the UNV Programme, Mr. Cordella gained extensive professional experience with FAO, UNESCO and the private sector.
Mr. Cordella earned first class honours Master’s Degrees in International and Diplomatic Affairs – with a major in International Economic Relations - from the University of Trieste, and then in International Economic Development – with a major in Regional Economic Development - from the School of Development, Innovation and Change of the University of Bologna.
Mr. Cordella conducted extensive research on the following subjects:
- From European integration to globalisation. Itineraries of contemporary diplomacy (2001, co-author of the collection of essays, Istituto di Sociologia Internazionale di Gorizia, ISIG, Italy);
- The role of TransAtlantic Business Dialogue: a new model in the transatlantic trade relationship (2001, Experimental and interdisciplinary dissertation in Business Administration, International Economics and International Trade Law, Italy);
- The protection of the Mediterranean Sea from pollution: differences between, and deficiencies in European and Egyptian environmental legislations (2001, Regional Office for the Arab States, UNESCO, Cairo, EGYPT, Italy);
- The rural sector in Bosnia-Herzegovina: poverty reduction strategies (2002, Regional Office for Europe, FAO, Rome, Italy);
- Multinational corporations in a sustainable development context: the case of Global Compact (2003, Master’s dissertation in Development Economics, Italy).
