Steeles West is a proposed station of the Yonge-University-Spadina line of the subway in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, to be built on its western branch, the Spadina line. If built, it would be a temporary terminus, until the line gets extended further to Vaughan Corporate Centre. It would be located on Steeles Avenue West at Northwest Gate, and it's expected to open in early 2015.

The main buildings of York University's main Keele campus lie to the southeast of the proposed location. Black Creek Pioneer Village and the Beatrice Ice Gardens are found to the west, and the Metro Track & Field Centre and the Rexall Centre to the east.

The station would be built underground, lying on a northwest-southeast axis. The line would approach from York University station northwestward, directly under the university's main buildings, to meet the station.

The proposal includes separate TTC, York Region Transit/VIVA and GO Transit bus terminals, with a passenger pick-up/drop-off alongside major commuter parking lots built on vacant lands north of Steeles.

Much of the station itself would exist north of Steeles. This would be the first time a TTC subway facility will extend beyond the current City of Toronto, specifically into Vaughan, in York Region.

[edit] Subway extension

The Toronto Transit Commission has conducted the environmental assessment (see official link below) for the project to extend the Spadina line north from Downsview through this station to York University, Steeles Avenue and Vaughan Corporate Centre. The governments of Ontario and Canada have each pledged $670 million of funding for its construction. The City of Toronto and the TTC have indicated their concerns about lacking funding to operate the subway once it is built.

[edit] Transit City proposal

The Transit City proposal calls for a new LRT line known as the Jane LRT line, running along Jane Street from Steeles West Station to Jane Station.
