Steele City is a village in Jefferson County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 84 at the 2000 census.

Steele City is located at 40°2′11″N, 97°1′22″W (40.036466, -97.022819)[3].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.2 square miles (0.6 km²), all of it land.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 84 people, 45 households, and 25 families residing in the village. The population density was 364.0 people per square mile (141.0/km²). There were 57 housing units at an average density of 247.0/sq mi (95.7/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 100.00% White.

There were 45 households out of which 11.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.9% were married couples living together, 2.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 44.4% were non-families. 37.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.87 and the average family size was 2.36.

In the village the population was spread out with 11.9% under the age of 18, 2.4% from 18 to 24, 25.0% from 25 to 44, 27.4% from 45 to 64, and 33.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 55 years. For every 100 females there were 100.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.0 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $22,500, and the median income for a family was $32,500. Males had a median income of $31,250 versus $18,750 for females. The per capita income for the village was $36,214. There were 8.3% of families and 19.3% of the population living below the poverty line, including no under eighteens and 17.6% of those over 64.
